About the club
Built by students who were behind the curve
The founding
Two transfer students, one gap
Foundations of Finance was started by Founder Sam Scullion and Vice President Yash Gupta. Both arrived at Amherst as transfer students and found themselves behind the curve on finance recruiting, a process that rewards students who start preparing in their first year.
After learning the finance recruitment process the hard way, they started the club to help freshmen and sophomores learn the basics of finance recruiting and stay on track through an intensive process. The club sends weekly email updates, hosts weekly meetings, and maintains a resource library covering everything from cover letters to LBO models.
Foundations of Finance was founded at Amherst College in 2025 to close the resource gap that has historically held back Amherst students pursuing competitive finance roles.
What we stand for
Two priorities anchor everything
-
Placement
Place every member in a junior-year summer internship across investment banking, sales and trading, and private wealth and asset management.
-
Reinvestment
Cultivate a culture in which members invest in each other's success. Members who receive offers are expected to mentor future cohorts, steadily growing Amherst's footprint across the financial industry.
Early results
The commitment shows
For the Class of 2027, the club achieved a 70% placement rate with 20 placements at leading firms on the Street, including Goldman Sachs, Bank of America, Morgan Stanley, Guggenheim, Lazard, and Wells Fargo.
Foundations of Finance has reshaped the recruiting landscape at Amherst, building a strong alumni network and broadening what's possible for the students who follow. As our presence in the industry grows, so does our ability to pay it forward.
